My First Prediction in January 2012
Street Style at Milan Fashion Week
I believe this trend does not have much of a future in regards to the mass market of consumers. The shoes may not seem very practical or comfortable to those looking for wearable footwear. Some of the shoes, however, may have small transparent elements that make them seem easier to wear: for example, a lucite heel with a leather upper or a regular sandal with a small amount of PVC on top. I can see these kinds of styles being more widely accepted. I also believe that celebrities in particular are currently the major market for this trend, but as the weather gets warmer, more consumers will start picking it up.
While they are often neutral and would work for a night out, perhaps, the average consumer would most likely opt for a more traditional pump or sandal in a classic textile, such as leather (faux or real).
The transparent shoe works nicely alongside the neon brights trend of Spring 2012 for those who dare to stand out.
